Main Daily Schedule Auditions Program Notes FAQ All Camps
Auditions & Casting Register Now
Auditions only apply to Matilda, Tarzan, Annie Jr., & Shrek Jr. Auditions are only to determine acting parts in our show and not acceptance into the program; all committed students, beginner and experienced alike, may be in any of our shows. Every student enrolled in a session is guaranteed a part. We are unique in that we offer an equal opportunity audition and casting process where every student has an equal shot at the part of their choice. Beginner and experienced students alike may be featured in our summer shows.
Important: You will select your exact audition time based on your child’s age during the online registration process. Auditions happen for 1-1.5 hours, depending on age, from 9am – 3:15pm. Call Backs are 4 – 5:30pm.
Audition Dates:
Matilda – no auditions
Tarzan – no auditions
Sat, June 27 – Annie Jr.
Sat, July 18 – Shrek Jr.

Audition Format for Matilda, Tarzan, Annie Jr., & Shrek Jr.
In order to have more time to get to know our students and better cast them, we are auditioning actors in small groups of similar age range, giving them more time to demonstrate their skills to our creative team. Actors may also have a chance to read opposite other actors in a safe and unintimidating environment. Each group audition will last one hour. Students considered for lead roles may be called back for a call back (second audition) at the end of the day, so please be available from 4 – 5:30pm, in addition to your audition time, on the audition day. Campers will need to prepare material for this audition process; they will receive Audition Guidelines along with their scripts with detailed instructions on audition preparation.
Audition Preparation Workshop
This workshop is limited to first 60 registrants. The workshop happens Saturday, May 2 from 11am to 3pm at RMTK at 5311 Western Avenue, Ste 135 in Boulder. In the workshop, we will learn how to prepare for the audition, how to pick good roles compatible with your child’s skill & experience level, learn basic audition protocol, such as how to do a professional slate, boost self confidence, and more.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not required and will not affect casting but is merely intended for those seeking audition help. As an added and optional feature of the camp, the workshop has a fee of $40. You may add this to your registration during the camp registration process or after the fact by logging into your account at Account Page or call us at 303-245-8150.
Casting Policy
Please be aware that no student is guaranteed any one particular part, no matter what their acting resume is like. We choose whichever student we feel is best suited for a particular part. This is a very complex process, especially when we are trying to cast many campers who are all auditioning for the same two parts. On that note, parents, please encourage your children to find parts other than the main character to audition for. Often the supporting roles are most interesting. However, please rest assured that your child will play a very active role in the production whether or not they have a lead role. Our “workshop” environment is conducive to an active personal process for each student.
Unable to Attend Auditions?
Attending the audition gives campers the best opportunity to be seen, but in the case of a long distance registration or if you will be unavailable on the audition date, a YouTube link of your child including video #1 and video #2 below, must be submitted to us by Thursday at noon before the scheduled audition date for the camp. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee your child an equal shot at the part of their choice if we do not receive their audition on time. **Ensure your YouTube video is PUBLIC. We will not attempt to troubleshoot non-functioning media. Scripts and sides (short selections from a script that actors perform in an audition) will be available about a month before the scheduled audition day. These can be picked up in Boulder.
Video #1: Record the camper reading for 2 contrasting characters (have a parent, sibling, or friend read opposite)
Video #2: Record the camper singing 16 bars of a musical theatre song (accompaniment is helpful, but not required)
Video #3: OPTIONAL – It is helpful for us to see how a camper moves, even if they don’t dance. (Submit footage of a previous dance recital or performance OR put on music and record that student free styling or even just walking in rhythm OR choose to show us another special skill/talent your camper possesses!)
If you know your camper will not be able to attend auditions in person, please email info@theaterforkids.net to request the complete Remote Audition Guidelines.
